Femke’s endeavour is at
all times to provide sharp
and accurate,
well-researched news and
feature writing- matched
to publication style and
to tight deadlines.
She tries to combine this
with her creative, positive,
communicative and
conscientious  nature,
and a natural curiosity for
stories.

On a personal level, she
is mostly interested in
issues to do with
using earth less like a hotel
as we do now!

Hampshire and London-based freelance 41-year-old journalist. Qualified at postgraduate level at the LondonSchool of Journalism. Twelve years of journalism experience as a camerawoman and feature writer.  Fluent in both English and Dutch, Femke provides articles in both languages for a variety of clients; from trade magazines to newspapers.

Originally from The Netherlands, Femke started her working career in London shortly after moving there 21 years ago. She began working as a (news)camerawoman in 1996. With a thirst for stories she also moved into print journalism in 2003 and, taking her previous TV news knowledge with her, Femke now also complements her articles with photography.

"My first TV camera job was filming the Princess Di funeral for Sky News. From then followed eight years of filming and travelling as a lighting camerawoman and on OB and studio productions, for clients such as Sky

News, Reuters, CNBC, Carlton 021 and The Travel Channel. Filming the likes of Michael Jackson, George Michael and Benazir Bhutto, my desire to locate and publicise real stories from real people grew. For my first news report for a great local north London community newspaper I still remember sitting in someone's backroom listening to their life story."

Now, as a feature writer, Femke submits to a variety of publications. For example, she edits health and fitness trade magazine bodyLIFE UK , which has been published in a variety of languages around Europe since 2001, and she writes a bi-weekly art column for Dutch national newspaper NRC Handelsblad . Other clients include Waypoint MagazineBest Practice Magazine and The Archer Newspaper , which gave her an invaluable opportunity to break into journalism.

Femke also helps train postgraduate students at the London College of Journalism after qualifying there herself, and still provides camera work for, for instance, Oxford-based First Sight Media
